Pic 1Sunday 19 June was a phenomenal night at St Paul’s Castle Hill. Gathering in the name of Jesus, 640 people participated in a live recording for the new CityAlight album. There was a wonderful sense of community and celebration as God’s people sang with such enthusiasm. I got goose bumps hearing the people of all ages cry out “I want to know you, Jesus my Lord”. It was a foretaste of heaven.

The event required an army of volunteers. About 70 men and women working together with a common goal; a genuine desire to see the Name of Jesus glorified. Special mention goes to Rich Thompson, Jonny Robinson and Rich Vassallo. I cannot thank these guys enough for their hard work and commitment. We are also deeply indebted to Michael Farren who traveled all the way from Nashville to partner with us. A long term friendship is being forged with Farren (and friends) who is such a talented producer/songwriter.

The 10 songs have been written and arranged with the small church in mind and I am believing these songs will go farther and wider than ever imagined, equipping people and churches all over the world. These uplifting songs are filled with biblical truths that point to a ‘Good and Gracious King’; the ‘One and Only God’ worthy of our devotion.

When will the album be available?

Good question. The producers are now working on post production and hope to have the album competed by late September 2016.  We plan to release a few singles sooner, so stay tuned!

Where can I purchase the first CityAlight album?

‘Yours Alone’ was released in 2014 and is available on iTunes and from Koorong.

May the words of Psalm 95:1-7 stir your soul:

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lordlet us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

SHINE CONFERENCE is on again! What began in 2008 as a training day for the St Paul’s music team, has evolved into an event for creatives and church leaders from all over the country.

Tim Keller talks about the power of active contextualisation and we also want to see the gospel of Jesus communicated in mediums that are engaging and relevant.

In the past, guests have included, Darlene Zschech, Mike Raiter, Robert Fergusson, Karl Faase and Ray Galea.

This year,  we are delighted to host Oscar Muriu, all the way from Kenya. Oscar  is Senior Pastor of Nairobi Chapel and has much to say about the arts as an effective communication tool. Oscar speaks all over the world and was a part of the Global Leadership Summit 2013 faculty at Willow Creek.

The event also features short talks, workshops and worship lead by CityAlight.

Check out the SHINE website for more details and to register. ‘Early-Bird’ rates apply until 19 May.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14-16

Congregational singing is such a powerful expression of our worship. I love singing on my own, but something special happens when the body of Christ gathers and praises God together.

The way the teams lead us each weekend is inspirational. I see such passion and a genuine desire to point people toward the risen Jesus. God is building His church and I am truly thankful for the way that He is using the Creative team at spch.

An area that is flourishing at the moment is songwriting. Since Rich Thompson and Jonny Robinson joined the staff team (part time), a number of systems and improvements have been made such as:

1. A discussion paper distributed on the need for ‘clarity in songwriting’

2. A new process for the submission of original songs

3. An improved process for arranging and then creating high quality demo’s of new songs

4. An increase in the number of songwriters

5. More consistent training and mentoring of songwriters

All this in 3 months! I cannot tell you how much I value the contribution that both Rich and Jonny are making. And it’s so wonderful to see writers such as Gil Corr, James Ferguson, Jess Murray, Niki Shepherd, Nate Singh (and others) grow as creatives, eager to share their gifts with the church.

It is essential that the songs we sing are Christ-centred and under God, we are already seeing some incredible fruit.  Songs such as ‘Praise The Saviour’, ‘All To See’ and ‘Oh The Mighty Hand’ are such a blessing to the congregations.  God willing, these songs (and the many others that are coming through) will be a resource for the wider church community.

The plan is to record a live EP of congregational songs in October this year. Rich Vassallo (Production Minister) is invaluable to us as Production Minister at church. His skill and experience will be particularly helpful during pre, recording and post production of the album project.

A new artist name for spch Music, as well as a publisher name for St Paul’s Resources will be also launched, so stay tuned music lovers!!!

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”
